LIVING SOIL FABRIC BED & CUSTOM BLUMAT DESIGNS
Living Soil Modular system for growing in 4x4 containers.
The modular system gives you the option of two custom Blumat layouts, dependent on your watering source and includes a Grassroots living soil bed - available to purchase as a separate unit.
Unlike other kits on the market these specific layouts have appropriate soil to sensor ratio to ensure that your Blumat system is not over-taxed by too much demand, while offering better control over irrigation. Refined in commercial facilities and made with the goal of minimizing the time it takes to both install and uninstall the systems between crop cycles.

The Bed
This can be purchased as a standalone item or with the Blumat designs below. A 4’x4’ living soil fabric bed from our friends at Grassroots Fabric Pots. These fabric beds have been material tested and are manufactured using methods that will keep your soil and crops clean from any unwanted leaching of heavy metals. Additionally, this 4’x4’ bed also contains a liner which limits soil moisture levels from undergoing large fluctuations. The bed will also come with Grassroots’ trellis kit, allowing growers to use 1” PVC piping (not included) to create the structure needed to use any type of trellis netting to help with taller crops.

The Custom Blumat Designs
Pressurized Water Option (DESIGN 01) - This is the option growers will want to go with if there is already have a pressurized water source available. A pressurized water source can be a hose bib, the end of a hose, or any other pressurized water source that has a male ¾” pipe thread fitting. This kit will come with a pressure reducer that ensures that your Blumat components will work properly and not fail due to over pressurization.

We suggest you also purchase a moisture meter with the kit.
Gravity feed option (DESIGN 02) - This is the option for growers that do not have access to a pressurized water source. The challenge with this option is that it requires a reservoir to be (safely!) placed no less than 5’ above the soil surface to generate adequate head pressure for the Blumats to function properly. Of course, larger reservoirs will require less filling, however they get very heavy very quickly, so please keep that in mind when thinking about the gravity feed system. This kit will come with a bulkhead fitting that will need to be plumbed into your reservoir.
