Easy-to-Use. Reliable. Microscope-Tested.

The KIS Compost Tea Brewing Kits come in a single, 3, 5 or 10 brew option for 5-gallon batches, or in a single or double brew option for 50-gallon batches (tea brewer system not included). We have done extensive testing and research in designing these kits in order to guarantee consistently high numbers of beneficial microorganisms in every brew.

What's included:

Either a single, three, five or ten individually portioned and packaged tea brew kits to produce 5 gallons of compost tea per 5-gallon kit, or a single, or double individually portioned and packaged tea brew kit to produce 50 gallons of compost tea per 50-gallon kit. Each kit contains high-quality compost, and foods to enable microbial growth.

How to use these brew kits:

1. Fill the 5-gallon bucket or 50-gallon container with rainwater or dechlorinated water.  Ensure you have a quality aeration motor to maintain adequate dissolved oxygen levels for microbial growth.

2. Use one kit for one brew: Drop the mesh bag into the bucket, sprinkle in the loose bag of foods, run your brewer aeration system for 18-36 hours, and you're done!

We recommend you apply your compost tea within 4 hours of taking it off of aeration.

Need more than 5 gallons of brew?  We recommend brewing the tea in the 5-gallon bucket, and then diluting as needed for the application. We also offer our 50-gallon microbulator and kits for larger applications.

For first time users in a garden, outdoor landscape, or farm, we do 5 applications (of about a pint per plant used as a soil drench) throughout the growing season. Some gardeners and growers apply teas at rates ranging from once per week to 3x for the entire year. You’ll need to determine what works best for your garden based on plant response, labor, and cost.

Don't have a brewer?  Check out our 5-gallon Mini-Microbulator or our 50-gallon Microbulator.

Best and easiest way to make compost tea.

I’ve been using the Compost Tea Brewing kits for years with the KKIS aerator. I then pour the tea in a plastic watering can and walk over my yard, grass, prairie, perennial and vegetable beds, sprinkling away. I’ve had Creeping Charlie sprayed and a few days later, I look for a cloudy day when rain is coming, I sprinkle my yard. I repeat the compost tea monthly 2-4 times and happily walk barefoot.

Brewing in the Greenhouse

Had to put 5-gallon bucket in larger container to contain the splashing—not a gigantic problem. The first batch was about 20 hours, the second about 36 hours—the second batch had froth on top and seemed to be a more liquified consistency. I can see both the greenhouse and covered raised bed plants appearance is perkier with much new growth despite our cool, mostly sunless summer thus far.

Makes poor compost and other growing media exceptional!

I attempted to make my own potting soil from composted horse manure and a few other additives, but the mix soon proved to have terrible water holding capacity. I picked up the pots the mixture was used in and they were light as a feather. In hopes of saving my valuable plans I ordered the KIS Organics compost tea. Over the course of a few weeks I applied three or four applications. I soon noticed my Camellias starting to perk up again and even form numerous leaf buds. Additionally, now when I left the pots they have considerably more half to them. I will now be inoculating all my compost with KIS Organics compost tea

Positive experience with compost tea brewing kit

The KiS tea brewing kit is about as simple as it gets -- a one stop shop for people who want the benefits of an ACT without too much meddling. Just add the pack to dechlorinated water, bubble overnight, and it's ready to pour. If you're bothered by the price tag, remember that our time as people and gardeners has real value, especially with all the other responsibilities we have in our lives. Sure, you can do just about everything DIY for cheaper, but for a few extra dollars it's certainly worth the convenience. The ease and simplicity of this product is particularly attuned to those of us who have community garden plots without the space to DIY compost. As far as effectiveness, we see continuing results in our garden allotment that started within three days of application. Basil, tomato, three different squashes, cucumber, kale, and bok choi all responded with fresh, dark, vigorous growth compared to the same plants in our neighbors' plots. Our plants also appear to be more robust in comparison to our neighbors' -- we saw reduced wilt from hot/dry conditions, reduced insect damage, greater leaf length/diameter, and everything we're growing is about 20-30% larger/farther along in general. We're seeing a lot more worm activity as well, which points to the health of the soil (that's what it's all about!). One of the cooler things we've noticed is that our neighbor's plants have grown larger in the area contiguous to where we applied the ACT to our plants, but the same is not true of the same plants farther into their plot. We don't have the awesome brewer that Tad recommends, but we do have a 19 L bucket and two aquarium pumps with bubble wands. Although not ideal, the system performed fantastically for us. We bubbled overnight and applied about 0.25 L to each plant. We plan to continue this with one application per month throughout the growing season. This is just our tiny anecdote, but we're definitely sold on ACTs. They're not some "miracle cure-all," but they definitely act synergistically with a responsible organic gardening plan. I'd also like to say that after having a chance to compare soil solution samples from my and my neighbor's plots under the microscope in my lab (I'm a biochemist), there's more soil life in the sections with ACT-treatment, and that's after only a single application. We're thankful that KiS offers this product. -Nicholas S.
